Frame by Frame: The Art of Student Film making
13 October 2025
The Orion University Film Society recently held its annual Student Filmmaking Showcase, featuring a collection of short films produced by students from the College of Media and Communication. The event, held at the Innovation Hall Theater, highlighted the creative storytelling and technical skills of Orion’s emerging filmmakers.

Throughout the semester, students worked in small production teams—taking on roles such as directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and editors. From conceptualizing scripts to managing on-set lighting and sound, each participant gained firsthand experience in the filmmaking process.
The showcased films explored diverse themes, including mental health awareness, environmental advocacy, and campus life. “Every frame tells a story,” shared Professor Alyssa Mendoza, the program’s coordinator. “Our students have learned to see beyond the lens—to capture emotion, movement, and meaning.”
The showcase concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing Best Direction, Cinematography Excellence, and Audience Choice Award. The event drew support from faculty, alumni, and local media professionals who praised the students’ dedication and innovation.
Looking ahead, Orion University plans to expand its film program by introducing new workshops in digital storytelling, documentary production, and visual editing techniques—empowering students to pursue creative careers in the ever-evolving media landscape.
